Irresponsible e-bike riders |

Taking action against irresponsible e-bike riders This electric bike is off the road - and its rider due in court. We received reports of a man in Thirsk riding around residential areas and the market place on Thursday evening. When we arrived we spotted a man dressed in black riding an e-bike. He was weaving in the road and went through a red light, narrowly avoiding two pedestrians on a crossing. The rider then mounted the pavement and rode down an alleyway... where officers were waiting for him. He was pulled from the bike and detained. He was reported for summons for driving without a licence and insurance. The incident comes after several illegal e-bikes were seized in York. They have since been crushed, and the materials recycled. Such bikes are frequently ridden in a manner that intimidates road users and causes nuisance. Operating an e‑bike that is not registered for lawful road use constitutes a criminal offence. Individuals who do so risk prosecution and the permanent seizure of the bike.
